Daily Planning Is A System

Not a goal.

A system.

Goals are great. In fact, goals often are the impetus for creating systems.

I have a goal to put on 10-15 more pounds of muscle. And I have a system for doing that: regular lifting, eating enough protein, and balancing bulking periods with cutting periods.

The system is the way of life that makes achieving the goal virtually assured.

But only if the system really is a way of life.

Daily planning is my system for getting things done, remembering the important stuff, and feeling calm, cool, and collected when I need to adapt.

The goals come and go. I achieve them, and set new ones. But the system evolves slowly, and only when it is failing to move me forward.

Sometimes that movement can be almost imperceptible. Nevertheless, it’s better than falling backwards and standing still.

Every little bit of movement translates to momentum, which will let you slowly accelerate.

Daily planning moves you forward, and eventually you have the need for weekly planning, and later monthly planning.

Sooner than you realize, you’re able to make long term plans and feel confident that you’ll make progress and adapt as needed.

It’s wonderful.
