What is Cue?

Cue is a simple tool I’m building to help you plan your day (week, month, year) and then execute your plan.

That’s pretty much it.

I’m big on planning each day. I’m not big on having it be complicated, burdensome, or difficult.

Planning should require a little thought, so you’re not just going through the motions. But that thought shouldn’t be about how to use a tool, or which tool to use. It should be about your life.

And the tool should just help.

It should help you to think about your life at the right level of granularity.

It should help you to remember the things your brain would rather forget, because they’re boring … until they’re not.

It should help you create habits and monitor how well you’re sticking with them.

It should help you see when you should adjust something.

Cue is my vision for how that happens.

At first glance, it’s just a tool for creating and completing todo lists. And it will have a simple, easy to use interface for creating a checklist and then checking it off.

But that’s just first glance.

Cue will also have “scripts”, that are common sets of todos that you want to accomplish in a given day. This makes it easy to script out parts of your life that will repeat (for example a morning routine) and easily add them to your day. Scripts can also be used for things that happen less frequently, like packing for a business trip.

Cue is built around the idea of a tickler file. So it’s very easy to put in reminders for yourself to see next Wednesday, or the last week of the month, or when summer rolls around.

Cue tracks all of your completed tasks, and can give you stats on how you’re doing. Working on a habit? Cue can tell you on how many days you’ve completed a task. It can also tell you how long your current run without missing a day is.

Some other ideas I have for Cue: alarms, calendar integration, nested scripts, etc.
