Writing Gives You Power-Ups

One reason I have a journal writing habit is because writing can be magical.

Well, it can unlock the magic you already have in your brain.

It’s like a power-up in Super Mario Brothers. You start writing, and all of a sudden things just work out.

I know that sounds crazy.

And I’m not saying that you can write your way into millions of dollars (though some people have).

But writing can get you unstuck like nothing else.

Recently, my son had a school assignment that he didn’t know how to complete. Having been through this rodeo a few times, I knew the answer.

Just write out your questions. Write out any possible answers that come to mind. Write about how you don’t know the answers. Write about where you might go to find answers, or what steps you could take to move forward. And then write some more.

The trick is just to write, even if you don’t know what to write about.

Doing so unlocks your power-ups. Problems will get solved. Paths will open up. A way forward will appear.

So take the leap of faith, and start writing.
